UNC Charlotte works with the community and the campus to accelerate technology commercialization, and champions the growth of entrepreneurial ventures. Globally, UNC Charlotte develops intellectual capital through collaborations with industry, government and academia. Faculty members are encourage to utilize resources available on campus to further their research and entrepreneurial ventures. The Institute's research centers consist of people and facilities that are thematically aggregated to address complex problems in an interdisciplinary fashion.
The Partnership, Outreach, and Research to Accelerate Learning (PORTAL) facility, is a premier workspace and innovation center for regional and global business pioneers, located on the campus of North Carolina’s urban research university. PORTAL is the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s latest commitment to industry-university partnership designed to spur business growth and job creation, promote research and innovation, and support the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Charlotte region.
PORTAL has a regionally unique business incubator and accelerator program that offers entrepreneurs and early-stage businesses on-site resources, expertise, and workspace as well as daily exposure to a creative mix of faculty, students, and well-established industry partners and corporate innovators. PORTAL provides Ventureprise and its client businesses an innovation-supportive environment in which to succeed and grow.
Step inside PORTAL and experience its contemporary aesthetic and 4-story atrium bound by offices, meeting rooms, and a café. An abundance of naturally lit community gathering spaces – including glass enclosed meeting rooms located on two atrium transecting bridges – facilitate networking and idea exchange.
